Amazing Wood Carvings – Man Even Refuses to Sell these Sculptures
Wood carvings aren’t a new style of art or sculpture. However, what artist Sergei Bobkov makes is. Sergei is a 53 year-old sculptor that creates the incredible out of what most pople would consider trash. He uses wood chips (specifically Siberian Cedar) to build beautiful and intricate sculptures. “It’s not very interesting to do what others can. To create something out of nothing in a completely new way is far more inspiring.”
The cedar chips are very delicate and small.
But because of their size, he is able to create incredible texture in his sculptures.
Some of the shavings are so fine, they look like fur or feathers.
Although his art looks like taxidermy, he says it’s nothing like it.
Instead of representing death, his animals represent life.
He soaks hundreds upon hundreds of chips in water.
Then, he shapes and carves them.
Working 10-12 hours a day, it takes Sergei about 6 months to create just one of these sculptures.
He has been offered thousands of dollars for his art, but he says it’s not for sale.
Source: Sergei Bobkov via Reddit Sergei’s art is almost more incredible because of his lack of desire to sell it. He was offered $17,000 for his wood chip eagle but he won’t sell it. Even though he has been making these sculptures for some time, he only has 11. They are an intense labor of love. To see more pictures of Sergei in action, visit this gallery page.
